Don’t Toss Your Hearing Aids in the Junk Drawer – We Can Repair Them!

by | May 7, 2024 | Hearing Aids, Patient Resources, Technology

If you rely on hearing aids, you know how frustrating it can be when they stop working properly. Maybe you forgot to take out your hearing aids before jumping in the shower. Perhaps the dog got ahold of them, or they’ve slowly stopped working due to wax or dirt buildup. We’re all human – accidents happen, and it’s common for hearing aids to need repairs from time to time.

No matter the reason your hearing aids are not functioning properly, we will do our best to repair them for you. Before you toss your devices in the junk drawer, give our team at Brampton Hearing Aid Services a call.

Common Types of Hearing Aid Repairs

We have completed countless successful hearing aid repairs for our patients. Throughout our years of experience, these are the issues that we see most often:

Moisture Damage:

Moisture and electronic devices don’t mix well. Sometimes, no matter how careful you are, moisture will make its way into your devices – especially if you’re very active or live in a humid climate. Try wearing a sweatband when you’re exercising, and always store your hearing aids in a dry place when you’re not wearing them.

Wax Buildup:

While earwax serves the important purpose of protecting our ears from dirt, debris, and bacteria, too much earwax isn’t great for your devices. When wax builds up, it can cause your devices to stop working properly. Regular, thorough cleanings can help you avoid this problem.

Physical Wear and Tear:

Dropping or stepping on your devices can lead to physical damage like cracks and loose wires. To mitigate physical damage as much as possible, keep your devices in their case away from children and pets when you’re not wearing them. It’s inevitable that accidents will happen from time to time, but don’t panic – fixing your devices is easier than you think!

When to Repair Your Hearing Aids vs. Replace Them

When purchased new, hearing aids come with a warranty. If your warranty has expired, it is still possible to repair most hearing aids for a small fee. Depending on the hearing aid manufacturer, repairs may come with a new year-long warranty.

In some cases, it may make more sense to replace your devices. If your hearing aids are a few years old and no longer under warranty, replacing them may be the most cost-effective option. When you come into our clinic for a repair, we will assess the damage and let you know what your options are so you can make the best decision.
