Go for it!

Adrienne has struggled with her hearing since she was a teenager.

She recalls, “My hearing loss started early in life. I was in high school when I realized I was missing too much being taught. At first, I just felt like I was not smart. I did not want to wear a hearing aid. I didn’t want to look different. I didn’t want to be dependent on an aid.”

Ida was mostly concerned about how her hearing loss “was negatively impacting my career.”

Jeannie’s hearing loss was playing havoc with her life.

Recalling her life before hearing aids, Ruth says, “My biggest concern was that I was being a nuisance asking people to constantly repeat what they said. And I couldn’t seem to tune my guitar properly.”

Great knowledge

Attempting to pinpoint when he first noticed his hearing loss, Jim believes it was “after the Bell’s Palsy attack in 2006 , I think.”

Jim wasn’t immediately concerned, but that changed when he started missing parts of conversations. “As time passed, I found I had missed things and that’s when I went to see Pat at the time for testing,” he recalls.

Fred learned he had a hearing loss thirty years ago “when I got my hearing check at work, they told me.”

When John’s hearing began to deteriorate, he approached his situation rather calmly. “It [hearing loss] is in the family, so I was not at all surprised,” he says. “For me, this was in 1989 and today I am almost totally deaf without my present hearing aids.”

He recalls that the cost of hearing aids was his main concern at the time. “I was not really prepared to fork out a small fortune,” he says. “But in the long run, I did and couldn’t have survived without my hearing aids.”

Wesley was concerned that his hearing loss would affect his schooling.

Patricia was concerned about her hearing and how it was affecting her work.
