Jill Black, AuD

Doctor of Audiology

Jill grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and attended the University of Western Ontario (now Western University) in London, Ontario.

Since childhood, Jill knew she wanted to work within healthcare. Her aunt is a speech-language pathologist, and Jill initially pursued that as her career and began her studies within that field.

Along the way, she was introduced to the field of audiology and became enamoured with hearing device technology and the instant improvements in communication people experienced.

As an audiologist and owner of Brampton Hearing Aids Services, much of Jill’s time is split between patient care and business management. However, she prefers patient care, performing comprehensive audiological assessments, discussing treatment plans and fitting hearing devices.

Jill loves talking with her patients and getting to know their stories and joking around with them. She shares it feels like hanging out with family members and friends all day – with a little bit of work mixed in!

Outside of the office, Jill keeps busy with her three children (Kenzie, 15; William, 12; and Cameron,9). They can often be found enjoying nature walks, arcades, movie nights or vacations. Jill also is mom to an 8-year-old miniature schnauzer named Jack. (Many of our patients had the pleasure of meeting Jack when he was suffering some major health problems and had to come into the office with Jill).

Jill’s other interests include music (especially live), beaches, hiking, working out (especially riding her peloton) and wine (and if there’s a patio, she definitely wants to sit on it with her wonderful friends!).

If you could have dinner with one person, who would you choose?

I think it would be fun to have dinner with Jimmy Fallon. I love his sense of humour.

What is your favourite sports team?

Toronto Maple Leafs. I grew up watching hockey up in the north; many of my cousins were hockey players, and goalies at that. My grandfather used to make us watch hockey night in Canada all the time – but he was a Detroit Red Wings fan. Since I moved to the GTA, I caught Leafs fever.

What is your favourite food?

When I get asked this question, I always feel like I should be saying some amazing culinary treat, but the honest answer is nachos. A giant plate of cheese covered chips piled high with all the toppings, even if the guac is extra =0)

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Anywhere tropical with a beach is my favourite. I’ve always wanted to stay in one of those huts on the water they have in Bali.

What’s your all-time favourite TV show/series?

I am a huge Friends, Seinfeld and The Simpsons (from the 90s) fan.
