Taya Mitchell, CDA
Communicative Disorders Assistant
Taya grew up in Scarborough and attended Wilfrid Laurier University, where she completed her bachelor of arts in psychology. She later went to Durham College to earn her communicative disorders assistant certificate.
Taya’s interest in psychology sparked a curiosity about communication, human development and the ways they shape our everyday experiences. This initially led her to consider a career as a speech-language pathology assistant, but a placement at an audiology clinic introduced her to a new passion: hearing care. She was fascinated by hearing aid technology and, most of all, by the reactions of patients experiencing their hearing aids for the first time.
As a communicative disorders assistant at Brampton Hearing Aid Services, Taya combines those interests with her passion for helping others. Her experience working alongside an audiologist has given her an appreciation for the many ways she can support patients, from assisting with hearing assessments to helping coordinate their appointments.
Taya especially enjoys seeing how better hearing helps people reconnect with conversations and loved ones, build relationships and feel more confident. She says knowing that even the small things she does can improve someone’s quality of life makes her work particularly rewarding.
Outside of the office, Taya enjoys Pilates, reading, baking and cooking, or getting cozy with a good show or movie. She has also always loved performing and spent much of her childhood singing and acting in musicals. When she’s not enjoying a cozy night in, Taya loves discovering new restaurants and exploring different cuisines.
